Ida Hamilton was born in Braeton, Jamaica, West Indies on May 24, 1930.
She met and married Astley Hamilton and had their first daughter Marjorie in Jamaica. In 1967, the family migrated to America. After settling in Brooklyn, New York, their second daughter, Andrea was born. The family eventually moved to Freeport, New York in 1975 where they still reside.
Ida attended First Church Baldwin United Methodist Church with her husband and family and was an active church member who volunteered and served on many committees. Ida was a long-time employee of Nabisco Brands and remained in their employ through their merging with Kraft Foods, until her retirement.
Ida was a caring family person who stayed in regular contact with her family and in-laws. Known and treasured for her excellent cooking and baking skills, she loved to prepare big holiday dinners. The holidays were not complete without a black cake, rum cake or her other varied baked treats.
On Saturday, December 26, 2020, Ida departed this earthly life after a relatively short illness.
She leaves to mourn her passing; daughters Marjorie and Andrea, sisters Iris Chang and Rita Anglin, brother Stafford Chin, sister-in-law Neville Joyce Watson, brothers-in-law, Barrington Anglin, Dudley Hamilton, George Hamilton, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation will be at the Cecere Family Funeral Home 2283 Grand Ave. Baldwin, NY 11510 on January 4, 2021 from 9-11 AM. Service will be on Monday January 4, 2021 at 11 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
