Obituary for Robert M. Carter
For it is the lives of great men who have pierced our hearts, it is there where they shall remain.
Robert Maurice Carter II was born to the dynamic parents of Charlotte “Bunni” Casey and Robert Maurice Carter Sr. on December 3, 1972 in the Bronx, New York.
Known under his multiple aliases, Baby Robert, Roberto, Base, Rob Base, Carter, he was affectionately known to most as Rob.
A native of Patterson Houses in the South Bronx, Rob attended public schools P.S. 18 and I.S. 183.
Lifelong friendships and memories were created during this time that continue up to this very day. It was also during this time that Rob began cementing the balance of academics and sports, specifically basketball.
For High School, Rob attended Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. Along with achieving academic success, Rob also led the basketball team to the City Championship, which was played at Madison Square Garden. It wasn’t Rob’s best game, but he was still our Champion. It was amazing to see someone that we knew and loved play on the Garden floor.
In true Rob fashion, Rob opted to stay close to family and attended Hunter College in New York City. Rob always had ways of showing you that he would always be close if you ever needed him.
Graduating from Hunter College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Rob had a stellar career at Hunter. Rob was named the CUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Year, 2nd all-time scorer at Hunter, eighth highest scorer in CUNYAC men’s basketball history, three NCAA Tournament appearances advancing up to the “Sweet Sixteen”, along with countless other awards and accolades including being inducted into the Hunter College Hall of Fame.
Before finishing up at Hunter, Rob would go on to make one more move that would solidify his career and influence for years to come.
Rob returned to Madison Square Garden as an intern while at Hunter College. Sticking true to his values and ambition, Rob excelled with promotion after promotion, eventually earning the title of Vice President of VIP services for Madison Square Garden, the Beacon Theater, LA Forum, and Radio City Musical Hall. Rob was a hard worker who led by example, worked with pride, and cared with compassion.
Most noticeably, Rob was a dedicated family man. He loved and cared for his family with the utmost affection and devotion.
On January 22, 2005, Rob Carter married Jessica Mitchell. Their timeless love story blossomed two beautiful children, Cayla Belle Carter, 15, and Mitchell Victor Carter, 12. Rob adored his family and committed his life to their well-being. He enjoyed nights out on the town with his wife and their close friends but more importantly he enjoyed his time spent with Cayla and Mitchell. Nothing was more important than the time that he spent with his babies. Whether it was talking over Cayla’s latest academic achievements or the latest in footwear, going over basketball drills with Mitchell or playing the game together, Rob thoroughly loved every second of his time spent with his family.
From the serious face to the gentle heart, from the never on time to the never missing an important moment, from the high-soaring to the laid back cool, from stories shared to the advice given, from the block to the boardroom, from the chains to the suits, from the smiles to the laughs, from the hugs to the pounds, the man who has lifted us all….now rests.
We thank our Heavenly Father who so graciously dispatched angels on September 15, 2020 and escorted Rob through the pearly gates. He is now able to reunite with the loved ones who passed before him

Carter Sr., step-father William "Billy” Casey, his siblings, Vernicka “Nikki” Banks(Jarvis), Shemeeka “Meeka” Mitchell, Taurean Casey, Tempestt Casey, Arthur “Doug” Sejour, Uncles Benjamin “Scholan” Carter (Cynthia), Lawrence “Larry” Bell (Mary), Aunts Angela Carter, Ethel “Peachie” Bell, Nonna Middleton, and Charmiane “Velonda” Bell, countless nieces, and nephews, who called him “Uncle Rob”, his six godchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
Rob’s love, compassion, kindness, generosity and loyalty to his family and friends is his true legacy.
