Obituary for Carl A Capasso

Carl (Andy) Andrea Capasso of Baldwin, NY, born March 21, 1937 (83), died Tuesday April 21, 2020. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to Anthony and Carmella (Prisco) Capasso and graduated Franklin K. Lane High School in 1955, where he met his future wife of 61 years and love of his life, Louise (Grasso).
After high school, Carl enlisted in the Navy and served in Naval Air. Upon completion of his enlistment he went into construction with his father. They completed many projects together including the Verrazano Bridge, Staten Island Expressway, Lincoln Center and many others. In March 1967 he became a proud member of the NYPD. During his time as a Police Officer, he completed his bachelor’s degree (Deans List) at New York Institute of Technology. Upon retiring from the NYPD, Carl worked as an investigator for the Queens Public Library system and in security at Sotheby’s Auction House. He then went on to work at Shea stadium and Citi Field where he became known and loved by his co-workers as “Command Post Carl” until he retired at the age of 79. This last job allowed him to be around the sport he loved so much throughout his life as a fan and coach, touching so many young lives.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife Louise, children - Camille (Giorgio), granddaughter Alessandra – Anthony (Deborah), grandchildren Christina, Maria and Anthony – Carl (Michelle), grandchildren Anthony, Serafina and Stefano – Stephen (Donna), grandchildren Carl, Andrew and Annalise – Maria (Chuck), grandchildren Nicole, Jennifer and Charlie.
Carl’s love for his children was surpassed only by his love for his grandchildren. His love and caring for each one gave him an individual bond and friendship that brought him so much joy and pride. All who witnessed him speak of his grandchildren could see this in his eyes.
His love of life and his engaging smile made anyone who met him feel as if they knew him for years. He was a man who personified putting family first above all things and was a role model and hero to so many. As a father, he knew how to support, direct and guide his children with whatever challenge they were facing. His love and wisdom was a source of strength for his family and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We leave you now with how Carl ended each conversation with his family – Love You, and God Bless You Always…
