I'm a 1973 graduate of Transfiguration School in Brooklyn, NY. I had the fortune of having Richard and Carol as my teachers. I later was fortunate again to have Richard as my teacher at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. Richard was a wonderful teacher and a good man. Both he and Carol made a significant impact on my life. I keep in touch with several schoolmates who benefited from the experience of having these two wonderful people as their teachers. We all share in the sorrow of Richard's passing. He will forever live in our memories.

My deepest condolences to Ms. Carol and family. Mr. Shiels was a wonderful teacher in grammar school and I was lucky enough to have him in my high schools, Christ the King and Bishop Loughlin as well. His easy going nature was very comforting. It's nice to see his smiling face in the picture posted above. It makes me think he had the happy, fulfilling life he deserved. God bless you, Mr. Shiels and your family!
