Obituary for Jean H. Howell

Howell – Jean H. of Uniondale died peacefully on April 16, 2014.
Jean was born in Pottsville, Pa and was 94 years old on February 6, 2014. She graduated Pottsville High School in 1937 and became a switchboard operator for “Ma Bell”. In 1941 she married her beloved John in New Orleans where he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. They were married for 70 years when he passed away in 2011. In 1949 Jean and John moved to Uniondale where she was a devoted, loving wife and mother and became active in her community and church. She was a member of the Republican Club, on the Board of Elections and was an Avon Representative for 50 years. She loved and served her church and church family for 65 years as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent, President for several terms of the church couples club “Hub a Wif “, Chair of the Worship Committee for many years, wrote the weekly “worship moment” in the Parish News and was certified and served as a Lay Minister for 30 years. Jean was a strong, intelligent, passionate, kind, loving person who loved her family, friends, God, church and country with all her heart. She treated strangers like family, touched thousands of lives and truly made a difference and the world a better place for all. Jean is survived by her son John and wife Karen, daughter Cathy Aziz and husband Zizo, four grandchildren, John and Andrew Howell, Jessica Persson and Michael Williams Aziz, three great granddaughters, Kennedy, Marlee and Cassie Persson, sister Leah Brennan and numerous nieces and nephews. The viewing will be held at the Cecere Family Funeral Home 2283 Grand Ave., Baldwin, NY 11510 on Sunday, April 27, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Hempstead, 40 Washington St, Hempstead, NY 11550 at 10 AM Monday, April 28. Interment following at Calverton National Cemetery.
