Obituary for Rose Marie Farrar (Ricketts)

Farrar, Rose Marie, 81, of Roosevelt, New York, died September 29, 2016. She was born at Greenville Hospital in Jersey City, NJ and was one on ten children of Alfred and Alice (Black) Ricketts. She was educated in the New York public schools and later attended the Brooklyn High School for Homemaking in Brooklyn, NY. She received her high school diploma in June 1953.
After graduating, Rose worked for a number of years at Hubergant’s Department Store in New York City. She was introduced by a good friend and co-worker to the late Walker C. Farrar, Sr. of New York City, New York. On February 28, 1959, they were married at Israel Memorial Church, in Newark, NJ. Rose was an active member of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary R.C. Church of Roosevelt, NY and, after receiving her certification, she operated a Home Family Day Care Center for the New York Department of Social Services for 26 years. Rose is proceeded in death by her husband, the late Walker C. Farrar, Sr., brothers, Alfred, Albert, Edward, and James, and sisters, Gladys, Florence, Cecelia, and Louise, all of Jersey City, NJ. Rose leaves her son, Walker C. Farrar, Jr., and his wife Freddie J. Farrar, of Canton, MA and a daughter Julie Marie Farrar, of Roselle Park, NJ. She also leaves a sister, Dolores Butler of Jersey City, NJ, along with three granddaughters, Katrina (Adams), Alanna (Farrar) and Allegra (Farrar). The wake will be on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Cecere Family Funeral Home, 2283 Grand Ave., Baldwin, NY. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary RC Church in Roosevelt, NY at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
